Why Beyond the File?

We understand the complexities of safeguarding work. With over 30 years of combined experience across NHS Foundation Trusts, Local Authorities and the Criminal Justice system, we bring a depth of knowledge that allows us to engage meaningfully with practitioners, families and partner agencies.

Our work is defined by a commitment to looking beyond the records and case files — understanding the person at the centre of every review, the practitioner experience of working within the system, and how issues of intersectionality and identity shape both access to services and outcomes. This approach produces richer learning and more impactful recommendations.

We convert learning into practical, achievable recommendations supported by SMART action plans with clear outcome measures where impact can be demonstrated. We appreciate the balance between maintaining independence and working collaboratively with panels and boards as experts in the local system.
